Community guidelines

GiveAway works because members trust each other. These guidelines explain what can be listed, how we expect members to behave and what happens when rules are broken. They are part of our Terms of Use.

What you can give away

Anything legal, safe and useful that you own and are happy to give for free, for example:

  • Furniture — beds, sofas, tables, chairs, cupboards, shelves
  • Electronics and appliances — working, or clearly described as “for repair / spare parts”
  • Books, textbooks, exam guides and stationery
  • Clean clothes, shoes and accessories
  • Baby and kids’ items — prams, cots, toys, school bags
  • Kitchen and household items — utensils, cookware, curtains, décor
  • Sports and fitness equipment, bicycles
  • Plants, pots and gardening tools
  • Tools and DIY materials

Items that are not allowed

  • Food and drinks of any kind, including packaged food, home-cooked food and supplements
  • Medicines, prescription drugs, medical devices, and opened cosmetics or personal-care products
  • Weapons, ammunition, knives sold as weapons, explosives and fireworks
  • Alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarettes and vapes, drugs and drug paraphernalia
  • Live animals, pets, and products from protected wildlife
  • Stolen, counterfeit, pirated or fake branded goods
  • Recalled or unsafe products, such as damaged helmets or car seats that have been in an accident
  • Gas cylinders, chemicals, pesticides and swollen or leaking batteries
  • Government documents, ID cards, SIM cards, bank cards, cheque books and passbooks
  • Adult or sexual content
  • Services, jobs, rentals, loans, advertising or anything offered in exchange for money
  • “Free” items with a condition attached, such as “free but pay for delivery”
  • Anything that is illegal to own, give or transfer in your country

How to write a good listing

  • Use real photos of the actual item — no stock images or pictures from the internet.
  • Describe the condition honestly, including scratches, stains or faults.
  • One item, or one set of items that go together, per listing.
  • Do not put phone numbers, emails or links in the title or description. Use the chat — listings with contact details are held for review.
  • Choose the right category and your correct postal code.
  • Confirm the handover with the code as soon as the item has gone, so nobody asks for something that is no longer available.

Be a good neighbour

  • Be polite and respectful in every message.
  • No discrimination, hate speech or harassment based on religion, caste, gender, disability, region, language or any other personal characteristic.
  • Request only what you will use yourself or pass on to someone in need. Collecting free items to resell them is not allowed.
  • Turn up when you said you would, or cancel as early as possible.
  • Don’t send copy-paste requests for everything you see.
  • Never ask for or share other people’s personal information outside the chat.

How we moderate

New listings are reviewed before they appear publicly. Automatic checks look for blocked words, contact details, links and duplicate posts. Members can report listings, profiles and messages at any time, and our moderators review every report — the most serious first.

When a rule is broken we may remove the content, limit the account, or suspend or ban it, depending on how serious and how frequent the problem is. We tell you the reason. Accounts involved in fraud, threats or illegal items are banned immediately and may be reported to the authorities.

If you think we made a mistake, reply to our message or write to support@giveawayworld.online. You can also contact our Grievance Officer.
